Wire and Wireless (India) Limited (WWIL) is one of the group companies of Essel Group. Essel Group has diverse national and global business interests, encompassing media programming, broadcast and distribution, specialty packaging, entertainment, telecom and trading, having close synergies particularly with ventures active in the areas of content, distribution and infrastructure. Essel Group is headed by Mr. Subhash Chandra. WWIL, the largest multi system operators in the cable industry, is involved in the distribution of TV channels through cable network.

WWIL has been formed as a part of the whole de-merger of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL, erstwhile known as Zee Telefilms Limited), the publicly listed flagship company of Zee Group. As per the Scheme of Arrangement approved by the Hon’ble High Court, Bombay, all the cable TV distribution business within ZEEL and Siticable Networks Limited (Siticable) has been transferred to WWIL w.e.f. March 31, 2006. Siticable was a 100% subsidiary of Zee Telefilms Limited (“ZTL”). The cable operations of Siticable were launched in June 1994. Siticable offered a wholesale service to Local Cable Operators (“LCO”), as individual LCOs were not capable enough to make the investment in head-ends to carry the rapidly increasing number of channels. Siticable invested in head-ends and trunk cable networks to the LCOs, while the LCOs owned and operated the network to the subscriber premises. This model enabled Siticable to secure a rapid market penetration.

WWIL has been in the business of providing content through analog cable system from the broadcaster to the Local Cable Operator(LCOs) since inception. Recently, with the implementation of CAS (Conditional Access System) in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai, WWIL has also started providing content through digital cable system. Apart from being engaged in the distribution of television channels through analog and digital cable distribution network WWIL is also involved primarily in internet and allied services.
